A Rapid Development
Throughout history, humans have always sought to move from one place to another as quickly as possible. In the mid 1800s, it took three days to travel between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The journey was made by steamboat and horse-drawn carriage — the public transportation of the time.
When the Western Main Line between Gothenburg and Stockholm opened in 1862, travel time was reduced to 14 hours. The uncomfortable journey by road was replaced by the comfort of the railway.
Today, the journey between Gothenburg and Stockholm takes three hours with the X2000 train. The development throughout history is remarkable, but internationally, Sweden is lagging behind.
