Installation Train
Installation trains were previously used for installing the wires on the overhead line poles.
The model in the "pit" in the floor nearby depicts a battery-powered locomotive and several wagons in a 1:20 scale. The batteries could be charged when the locomotive was positioned under an energized overhead line.
Mounted on the wagons is a 1.5-metre-wide walkway, at a comfortable working height of 4.5 metres above the rails. The assembly train was typically 70 metres long to cover a complete 60-metre span.
The drums with overhead line wire were placed in the drum wagon at the front of the train and secured in drum stands with brakes. From there, the wire was lifted to the required height for installation using a column with extension wheels.
From the workshop wagon with side walkways, the assembler could install details on the overhead line poles. The supporting wires were fitted using a steel measuring tape on the roof of the train.
The installation train was staffed with a locomotive driver and eight assemblers. If assembly work needed to be performed on energized lines, electrical safety personnel were also included.
The model has been borrowed from the Railway Museum in Gävle.
