Level Crossing Protection
At intersections between roads and railways on the same level, there are devices to protect road users. These devices mainly consist of:
- Boom barriers that cover the entire roadway - manual or automatic
- Automatic light/sound signalling systems
- Automatic half-barrier systems that only cover the right half of the road
These systems are collectively referred to as level crossing protection. The automatic systems are controlled by approximately 1000-meter-long track circuits. The functioning of a track circuit is shown here.
On the left side of the track, there is a light/sound signalling system. The track circuits that control the system are marked with orange colour. The electrical equipment (relays, rectifiers, transformers, etc.) for the light/sound signalling system is housed in a relay cabinet to the left of the track.
On the right side of the track, there is a half-barrier system. The track circuits that control the system are marked with green colour. The electrical equipment for the half-barrier system is housed in a relay hut to the right of the track.
