Mine Rails
1500s
After being almost forgotten since antiquity, transport on tracks resurfaced during the 1500s. In the mine next door you can see how tracks, in the form of planks, got a new and significant use.
In the mines the ground was uneven and the cargo heavy. The mine passages were both low and narrow. Often it was women and children who had the difficult task of carrying the load on their backs. With wagons on wooden plank tracks, transportation became both easier and faster.
