The New Platelayers' Cottage
Volkswagen 1966
In the 1950s, linemen were replaced by work teams responsible for maintenance over larger areas. To reach the various work sites, they needed to use cars. The VW van served not only as a means of transport but also as a resting area and dining space.
SJ's VW vans were specially equipped. One of the rear seats was turned around, and there was a fixed dining table between the seats. There were also heating cabinets for lunch boxes. This van was among the first to have the doors on the right side ahead of the switch to right-hand traffic in 1967.
In addition to VW vans, SJ's Railway Department also purchased many Volvo Duett and Ford Transit vehicles.
