The Story Begins Here
Welcome to the Railway Museum and the history of Sweden's railways. Here, you will experience a Sweden undergoing significant change with the introduction of an entirely new mode of transportation.
The exhibition starts with the period before the railway, exploring the society and transportation methods of that time. You will follow the progress with technological advancements, political visions, and hard work towards a functional railway.
In 1856, the first steam locomotives rolled through Sweden, marking the beginning of a new era. The railway gave rise to new communities and professions. Get to know the navvies, platelayers, and everyone else who built and developed the railway. The exhibition combines history and the present day.
Watch the performance with model trains depicting Sweden's railway history, and don't miss LOCOMOTION, the train simulator where you can experience train journeys in the past, present, and future.
Outside the museum entrance lies Trafikverksskolan (The Swedish Transport Administration's Training and Education Centre), one of Sweden's leading educators in railway professions. Since 1955, it has put Ängelholm on the railway map, and under the direction of the then called Banskolan (The Swedish Rail Administration's Education Centre), this museum was established in 1998.
Since 2012, Ängelholm municipality has been operating the Railway Museum.
