To my Future Wife/ The First Years at the Railway
To My Future Wife
The museum's station is modeled after Sparreholm station, outside Katrineholm. Between 1863 and 1881, Carl Herrlin was the stationmaster there and had his residence on the upper floor. In 1870, he wrote to his fiancée Euphrosyne, describing their future home together and included this drawing of the floor plan.
The First Years at the Railway
Axel E. Thelmén began working at the railway in 1899, at the age of 14, as a brakeman and station attendant. In total, he worked around 50 years in the railway's service, the last 30 years as a conductor.
The audio track recounts his first two years at Bergslagen's Railways (BJ) stationed in his hometown of Kil. The text is taken from the Nordic Museum's 'Railway Memories', chapter 'As a brakeman and conductor'. The book is part of a documentation project carried out in 1947-48.
The audio tracks are not available in english.
