Tower Clock
Late 1800s
Tower clocks were installed on a number of station buildings during the later part of the 1800s. The clocks were placed at the top of the building. The clock face, hour hand, and minute hand were placed on the outside and connected to the mechanism with a movable axle.
The pendulum clock was powered by a weight that was lowered through a channel from the upper floor to the ground floor. Therefore, winding the weight was only required once a month.
In 1927, 24-hour timekeeping was introduced on Sweden's railways. The tower clocks then received new clock faces with double digits, of the type shown here.
