Track Cleaning Wagon Qce
1892/1940s
This wagon was originally built in 1892 as an open goods wagon with the railway classification N for the Mellersta Hallands Railway (MHJ) between Halmstad and Varberg. Much later, in the 1940s, it was converted into a track cleaner at SJ’s workshop in Bollnäs. In the late 1960s, it received its current designation Qce 9450167-8.
There have been many different variants of track cleaners. This one is of the so-called "Bollnäs model." What is typical for this type is that the foldable devices with plows at both ends of the wagon are equipped with wheels.
Another solution was for the plows to instead slide along the rails on blocks. Since the plows had to be raised at, for example, road crossings, switches, and bridges, it was necessary for the wagon to be manned during plowing. It is equipped with a small cabin heated by a stove.
The track cleaning wagon is on loan from the museum association Östra Skånes Järnvägar in Kristianstad.
