A train heating post supplies electric power to locomotives and train carriages when the pantograph cannot be used, such as during stationary periods.

The transition to electric operation enabled the electric heating of passenger carriages. During travel, the power for the heating and lighting of the carriages comes from the locomotive. The power line is connected from carriage to carriage. When the cars are parked, they are instead connected to a train heating post on the railroad yard.

The handle on the side of the train heating post is the power switch. When the voltage is connected, it is indicated by a coloured glass panel sliding up around the indicator lamp.
