Telecommunication Along the Line
1950s
The model depicts the stretch between the stations Åsaka and Bäreberg during a winter in the 1950s. Along the railway line, there is a platelayer’s cottage. Between the stations, the three buildings can communicate with each other using both telephone and telegraph.
During this time, most of the railway network is electrified. To avoid interference from the overhead catenary, telecommunication cables are now buried as a standard practice. By using telephone exchanges, the number of lines used has been reduced.
The houses, in 1:20 scale, have been inspired by the Trollhättan–Nossebro line. In reality, it was narrow gauge, but here we have taken the liberty to build with standard gauge.
The landscape is designed inspired by landscapes in Västergötland.
